March 24, 2013

Greetings!!

Sorry for another short email; the internet at the chapel is down and so we only have half an hour at the library.

Miracle story!!! So we have been visiting a less-active named Peter. His wife is named Anne-Marie and she is a Jehovah's Witness. She didn't like hearing us share spiritual thoughts, but would allow it. We have kept going back and offering to do things for her, but she kept turning us down. About 2 weeks ago she finally agreed to let us help her do some organizing and filing. (Wooo! Time to put those Romney Institute skills to the test!) She saw us tracting across the street from her and asked us to come in and was so happy to see us. Then she called later and asked us to come over for a meal. When we came over on Saturday night, we mentioned a sports activity the ward was having after dinner. In the middle of dinner she was like, "Peter! I'm going with them to the Sports Night!" And we were like "uuuuh awesome!" Peter didn't even come, but she did and even offered to help us clean the church afterwards. Wow, this is so crazy! HUGE miracle! I don't know exaclty what happened inside her heart, but I can guarantee it was the spirit.

I love you all!! Hopefully i'll have more time to email next week!

March 17, 2012, Ashburton

I hope everyone's week has been great :)
It's finally raining here!! We are in a drought ni the south island, which causes problems especially since Ashburton is a farming community. So, today we biked in the rain for the first time. Not as bad as I thought it would be!

I don't have much time this week, so I will leave you with my testimony. I know my Savior lives. He has risen, and most of the questions of our heart can be answered by knowing that through the atonement, He suffered all things and He rose from the dead. He loves you, He loves that person you find annoying in math class, He loves the person in the drive through. Pray to our Father in Heaven - the Spirit will testify to you that these things are true. I love that about the gospel - that God just asks us to experiment upon His words, and find out for ourselves. Find out for yourself today! I promise He will answer.

Love you all!

March 10, 2013

Hello everyone!

This week was packed full. We had exchanges this week and I spent a few days up in Christchurch! There are soooo many people there compared to here in Ashburton. I served with Sister Saulala. It was really cool, exchanges seem to be a good way to re-energize an area! In Christchurch and Ashburton we found a number of new investigators during exchanges. Woo! Sister Saulala and I were eating lunch and one of the workers came up to us, told us he used to have a Book of Mormon and lost it, and asked if he could come to church with us. Man, it was so cool!

Christine's baptism is coming up fast! She had her baptismal interview this week and is pumped and ready to go! Prayers for her would be appreciated as she prepares for the 23rd :) We were teaching her a lesson on Saturday at the chapel and i looked out the window, and saw a man standing outside. I realized that I had seen him before - when we were inviting people to our special missionary Sunday on February 24th, we gave him (Mark) an invitation. He didn't come that day, but about a week later we ran into him again on the street. He said, "I lost my invitation to church, can I have another one?" I was like, "Uh yes! Yes of course you can!" So i was naturally very excited to see him standing outside the church. We invited him to join our lesson with Christine and he was excited to join! He participated in the lesson, but about ten minutes into the lesson he stood up and said he had to go to the bathroom and left the room. We saw him walk out the chapel - noooo! So we chased after him, and invited him to use the restroom inside the church, but he declined and ran across the street. Man, we hope to run into him again! I'm praying that we find him when we're downtown street contacting or something.

We had an open house on Saturday this week. It was designed for the members to help them get involved in missionary work and get excited! It was a huge success. We had the elders in our district come from Timaru to help out, and the senior couple, Elder and Sister Little helped as well. We had 4 rotating workshops: object lessons (even though we don't teach discussions with object lessons.. but it was just fun), a scripture chase, a role play to give out a Book of Mormon, and a Mormon.org tutorial. The members really enjoyed it! We had a non-member there as well, named Milo. He is from the Czech Republic and is on a work visa here. He has been going to a bunch of different churches and walked past our church. He said something made him stop, and he saw the missionary's phone number posted in the window. Elder and Sister Little happened to walk past him right then, and invited him to come to the open house and he showed up! I want to teach him so bad! He had a good time at the open house, I'm just praying he didn't feel overwhelmed. I'll keep you updated on Milo - keep him in your prayers please! :)

I know that this church is true. This is the Restored gospel. Joseph Smith did see God the Father and Jesus Christ; God answered his prayers, and He'll answer your's too.

Love you all!

Hello everyone!!

I hope your weeks have all been fantastic! :)

Christine has a baptismal date!! WOOO! March 23 here we come! She got up on Sunday and bore her testimony and announced to the ward that she was getting baptized. She is already asking about the temple and wanting to do baptisms for the dead for her brother. We can see her growing happier and happier! The gospel changes lives!!

I've been thinking this week about the pre-mortal life. Imagine this: Imagine choosing to come to Earth - you're so excited! Perhaps you go into your final interview with our Father in Heaven before you are to be born. He tells you that you are not going to be born into the gospel, but He is going to send someone to come find you. What would that feel like? Maybe God would tell you what the missionaries' names will be on Earth, and He would reassure you that they are faithful spirits and they will do everything they can to come bring you the truth. This week I've been thinking about what it would be like to have that realization. What faith!! So many of God's children are here on the earth today, waiting for God's messengers to come bring them the truth. This is such a motivating thought to me - every single person needs this message, and I have the chance to spend all my time sharing it with them. Life is so good!

love you all!!
